About The Position

This is a part-time, seasonal internship position until September 7, 2026. The intern will work under the direction of the Archivist in the management and preservation of Mohonk Mountain House’s archival collections, which date back to 1869 and include a variety of media such as documents, maps, audiovisual materials, born-digital materials, photographs, and historical records.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Windows-based operating systems.
  • Proficiency with software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, PastPerfect.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Proofreading skills.
  • Ability to produce well-written, error-free copies.
  • Ability to adhere to Mohonk Mountain House’s Dress and Grooming Standards.
  • Ability to learn and successfully demonstrate the Mohonk Mountain House Service Steps with Service Strategies with guests and staff.
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge of historical facts and information about Mohonk Mountain House.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including holidays and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to inspect work by touch, sight, sound and smell for conformance to prescribed standards.
  • Ability to speak, read and write the English language and communicate in a clear and congenial manner.
  • Ability to hear verbal instructions, directions and warnings.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms, bend, kneel, stoop, twist and flex arms, walk up and down stairs/inclines, stand, climb up/down ladders or sit for up to 5 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds from ground level to waist and carry a distance of up to 25 feet with/ without assistance.
  • Ability to walk up to 2 miles per day.
  • Ability to see close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work in an environment that contains dust.
  • Ability to act calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic archival processing including sorting, filing, inventory, arranging, describing, organizing, labeling, rehousing, and reformatting of archival materials.
  • Classify material for filing using straightforward or complex filing systems.
  • Screen complex technical, or specialized documents for referral.
  • Compose, proofread, or edit formal general correspondence and short reports for internal or external circulation.
  • Organize own work, prioritize duties, work unsupervised and as a member of a team.
  • Work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Work methodically and accurately showing attention to detail.
  • Answer phones and retrieve messages.
  • Respond to research requests with appropriate information.
  • Assist with special projects, clerical and administrative tasks.
  • Work extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/or operating a keyboard.
  • Perform basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Windows-based operating systems and use software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, PastPerfect.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills, proofreading skills, and produce well-written, error-free copies.
  • Adhere to Mohonk Mountain House’s Dress and Grooming Standards; presenting a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance and maintaining a positive, professional image to our customers.
