About The Position

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an Architecture Studio Lead to join their Science & Technology team in their Western NY offices. The company specializes in developing highly technical facilities and utilizing advanced technologies for research, development, manufacturing, and distribution. The Science & Technology team supports clients through all phases of development in industries such as biotechnology, grow facilities, healthcare, life sciences, materials manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals. This leadership role will guide a high-performing architectural team, shape the strategic direction and growth of the practice, and combine operational excellence, business development, and technical oversight to drive productivity, profitability, client satisfaction, and project success. The position involves overseeing project delivery, strengthening client relationships, mentoring staff, and championing collaboration across disciplines. Key responsibilities include guiding teams through project execution, supporting business development, managing financial performance, and ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and service. Success requires a blend of strong leadership, technical expertise, business acumen, and a passion for talent development and practice growth.

Requirements

  • 12-15 years of related experience in Architecture design for buildings projects.
  • Bachelors Degree in Architecture required.
  • Professional licensure in New York State required.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead an office and staff members in a cross-discipline environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively and efficiently, planning, organizing, and managing procedures, protocols, and/or staff to achieve desired outcomes for projects and programs.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

  • Masters Degree in Architecture preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, directs, and manages the work effort of assigned architectural staff.
  • Performs duties in support of the direction and vision of the overall discipline.
  • Collaborate with other managers and leadership within the region.
  • Responsible for productivity, profitability, client satisfaction and quality of work.
  • Active involvement with marketing and business development.
  • Responsible for proposal development and contract execution.
  • Responsible for billings and collections.
  • Monitors work backlog and the sharing of work within the region and discipline.
  • Actively involved in the cross selling of all company services.
  • Reviews staff utilization regularly to address employees not meeting utilization goals.
  • Ensures compliance with and enforces company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for project managers and staff on assigned projects and manage completion of projects regarding scope, schedule, quality, and budget.
  • Provide staff/managers with technical assistance and supervision in the preparation of proposals and contracts for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate and work closely with accounting/billing to develop and review project invoices, monitoring those of assigned billing managers. Complete all billing in a timely manner.
  • Assist with project manager’s efforts to prepare for and/or attend client/agency meetings with, or for PMs to present information pertinent to the project. Develop innovative, comprehensive multimedia support materials for client and/or agency meetings.
  • Develop the skills and abilities of staff which are necessary for successful execution of work duties. Serve as a mentor and coach staff.
  • Assist with the quality control/quality assurance efforts on all assigned projects.
  • Manage the performance of all assigned staff, conduct performance evaluations, provide input for all raise and bonus discussions.
  • Address any performance issues on a timely basis and work with HR as needed to create performance improvement plans.
