About The Position

CIC is seeking an Interior Architecture & Design Specialist to join its Design and Construction team at its Cambridge headquarters. This role focuses on creating inspiring, creative, and collaborative workspaces for innovation communities. The ideal candidate will have expertise in commercial interior design and a passion for optimizing space layout, flow, and circulation to foster creativity. CIC aims to create aesthetically pleasing, multi-purpose, and interactive spaces that are a pleasure to work in. This is an excellent opportunity for a Designer with at least two years of relevant work experience to make a significant impact and gain broad exposure across all phases of design and construction.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working (not including internships) in design or architecture, preferably with a focus on commercial projects.
  • Fluency in AutoCad, Revit, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign, Bluebeam, Sketchup, Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and rendering software.
  • A degree in interior design or architecture.
  • Experience producing layouts and space plans from scratch.
  • Advanced knowledge of furnishings, materials, and unique fixtures and features.
  • Strong 3D modeling, graphic design, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time to sites globally.
  • Ability to participate in business meetings outside of normal business hours (estimated to be less than 20% of the time).
  • Technical and design skills to create floor plans from scratch (1,000 to 100,000 sq ft).
  • Organized, detail-oriented, with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a project and team-oriented environment while also working independently.
  • Flexible, understanding of change, and willing to share information and decisions.
  • Team player with the capacity to foster and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Experience working on commercial building projects and knowledge of related codes.
  • Comfortable synthesizing data and using it to drive design.

  • Confident in delivering well-organized and clear presentations.
  • Experience working on projects with short timelines and/or budget constraints.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with branding, signage design, and wayfinding is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create schematic level floor plans, elevations, details, reflected ceiling plans, millwork design, furniture layouts, finish plans, color plans, and schedules for interior architectural projects.
  • Contribute to CIC’s culture and execute designs that demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of larger design aesthetics across expansion sites.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects of varying levels with different timelines and in different locations globally, offering support to other design team members.
  • Perform site analysis, including surveying existing conditions and obtaining field measurements.
  • Meet with external parties to understand their objectives and vision for new projects, executing designs that balance project-specific interests with CIC’s best practices and internal stakeholder input.
  • Conduct color, finish, and material research, using selection boards and other presentation materials to communicate design vision to stakeholders.
  • Manipulate advanced design elements such as proportion, color, light, texture, and scale.
  • Coordinate with consultants to ensure material and furniture selections comply with local code requirements and CIC’s operational standards.
  • Provide design oversight for finished plans, specifications, and material selections required for construction.
  • Provide construction administration services, including reviewing RFIs, submittals, finish samples, and shop drawings.
  • Research and participate in FF+E selection, creation of specifications, and procurement, adhering to project budget and schedule constraints.
  • Act as a design liaison between CIC internal teams (construction, finance, operations, labs, sales) and external teams (local architects, engineers, partner companies).
  • Coordinate with consultants for HVAC, electrical, low voltage, plumbing, fire protection, and safety.
  • Problem-solve innovative solutions to issues arising during the design and construction process to maintain CIC’s goals.
