About The Position

The GM Defense Architecture Systems Engineer is an advanced engineering resource responsible for the engineering definition of incoming projects into GM Defense. This role will work on new defense opportunities brought forward by the business development arm of GMD for analysis. The selected candidate will be responsible for advanced system integration in a fast-paced environment on government programs and special projects. The role requires a combination of technical theory and hands-on skills, with the confidence and ability to be self-directed in a small team environment. This person will focus on advanced concepts and activities for potential deployment to one or more of GM Defense’s future vehicle platforms. This role will collaborate with architecture SEs from multiple domain areas (Electrical, Propulsion/Electrification, Thermal, Survivability, Autonomous, Body, Interior, Chassis, etc.) to develop the entire vehicle design solution that meets the requirements of the Business Development proposal. Key engagement is also expected between internal product owners and vehicle program management. We are seeking Architecture Systems Engineers for domain areas with priority in Chassis Arch. SE and Body/Interior Arch. SE. Additionally, we are looking for Arch SE candidates whose skills cross broader domain areas of Survivability, Thermal, Electrical, and Hybrid/Electrification Propulsion Arch SE.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science
  • 5+ years of engineering experience
  • Advanced/Execution DRE, VSE and/or Architecture experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work with cross functional teams
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of design.
  • Extensive level of analytical ability where problems are unusual, difficult or complex.
  • Demonstrated ability of “dealing with ambiguity” to enable timely decision making.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of engineering operations, processes, and best practices.
  • Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee)
  • Domain specific experience aligned with Arch System Engineer role. (Electrical, Propulsion/Electrification, Survivability, Body, Interior, or Chassis)
  • Must have core Engineering experience in one of the following areas: Body Experience developing solutions to meet Body/Exterior/Structural requirements Demonstrated technical capability in body/exterior analysis, development and integration
  • Interior Experience developing solutions to meet Interior requirements Demonstrated technical capability in Interior development and integration
  • Chassis Experience developing solutions to meet Chassis requirements Demonstrated technical capability in Chassis analysis, development and integration (Frames, Suspension, Brake, Steering, Driveline, Exhaust, Air induction, Fuel, Mounts, etc.)
  • Electrical Global B electrical/mechanical architecture knowledge/application
  • Experience with Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) analysis, studies, inspections and tests
  • Serial Data MAC knowledge/application (Method Authentication Code)
  • Experience in packaging electrical components and wiring harnesses
  • Experience with wire schematics, Capital Tools, Generating Net Lists
  • 5+ years’ experience in INCA, Vspy and Simulink
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.

  • Demonstrated technical capability in controls requirements/feature integration

Responsibilities

  • Technology selection and supplier partnering for Advanced Systems
  • Reducing government vehicle requirements into system solutions
  • Defining architecture to support GMD applications
  • Work with designer team to package components and support design studies as required to meet customer requirements.
  • Help create vehicle strategies off of "commercial-off-the-shelf" and "newly created" system components that maximize performance and minimize investment
  • Supporting early advanced system architecture development and integration.
  • Adhere to all ITAR requirements (International Traffic in Arms Regulations).
