About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is seeking an Architectural Drafter Intern to support the Design Department team. Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Architecture & Design, the Intern will utilize AutoCAD and Revit to prepare necessary documents. This role involves generating Furniture & Commissioning Plans & Schedules, reviewing and redlining owner-furnished submittals, taking meeting notes, and updating drawings based on design team redlines. FHCSD is a large federally qualified health center with a mission to provide high-quality healthcare to all, with a focus on underserved populations.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an applicable Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design.
  • Current student in a recognized curriculum in an Architecture or Interior Design program that includes AutoCad and Revit for preparing construction documents.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Must be available to work the hours required to function in the role of an “Intern” and gain hands-on experience related to the functions of an Architectural Drafter.
  • Ability to work well in a team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.
  • Ability to follow both written and oral instructions in English.
  • Intermediate interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of commonly used architectural concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of architectural detailing.
  • Knowledge of building codes and related design requirements, including construction materials and methods, and graphic standards.
  • Knowledge of the permitting process.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license, an automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law (limits of $100,000 recommended).
  • An acceptable driving record is also required.

  • Traveling between sites and other locations is occasionally required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with programming and schematic design, including preliminary site visits and field verifications.
  • Assist in the review of construction documents, ensuring alignment with industry standard drawing formats and annotation techniques, by picking up red lines and making necessary changes.
  • Assist in preparing design presentations and renderings.
  • Facilitate coordination with project consultants, which may include outside Architecture firms, Civil, Structural, and MEP engineers.
  • Research and evaluate materials, products, and potential manufacturers, focusing on installation details and warranty information.
  • Research jurisdictional requirements, including applicable codes and plan check processes.
  • Maintain an organized file system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
