About The Position

At Cuningham, we design healthcare environments that shape how people heal, work, and connect, balancing bold creativity with technical precision and a deep respect for the patient and caregiver experience. We are seeking an Architectural Designer to join our Phoenix team and contribute to healthcare projects across all phases of design and delivery. This role is ideal for a designer who brings curiosity and craft to every challenge and is eager to grow within a collaborative, design-driven team. Experience in the healthcare market is a plus, but we also welcome candidates with a genuine interest in the market. Candidates will be considered for Architectural Designer I or II based on qualifications and experience. Designer I (non-exempt) assists in developing design solutions, documentation, and technical coordination under project leaders' guidance. Designer II (exempt) independently advances small to medium portions of project scope with minimal supervision, collaborating closely with project leaders, consultants, and clients.

  • A professional degree in Architecture
  • Experience in the healthcare market, or a genuine interest in growing a career in healthcare design

  • A curious, collaborative mindset with strong attention to craft and a sense of responsibility for the impact design has on people and the environment
  • For Architectural Designer II consideration: demonstrated ability to independently advance project scope with minimal supervision, collaborating directly with project leaders, consultants, and clients

Responsibilities

  • Develop design solutions, coordination, and production efforts across all phases of a project, through an iterative, collaborative process spanning sketching, 2D/3D modeling, and computational methods, in alignment with project success metrics
  • Explore and support regenerative approaches to the design and performance of the built, social, and natural environments
  • Prepare design presentations and support project documentation through both creative design and technical detailing
  • Coordinate BIM models with consultants, and support general coordination with and review of consultant and vendor drawings
  • Participate in construction administration activities alongside the Project Architect and on-site staff, including site observations and verifications
  • Research exterior materials, wall assemblies, waterproofing, and vertical circulation
