About The Position

STV is seeking an Architectural Designer to join our Buildings team in New York, NY. This role involves coordinating an architectural/engineering team in preparing documents for transportation projects. The candidate will be responsible for the initial design phase and detailed phases of architectural design, requiring collaboration with various disciplines, clients, and consultants. The role includes preparing architectural plans, performing analysis of design and construction systems, planning studies, design layouts, and construction details. Additionally, the designer will oversee research for specifications, conduct site and construction inspections, execute code analysis, material selections, and technical solutions. The position requires analyzing design and construction systems and coordinating with other disciplines, as well as planning, scheduling, coordinating, managing, and overseeing work.

Requirements

  • Professional Degree in Architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch preferred)
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite are required.
  • Excellent design, technical detailing, and strong presentation skills, both verbal and visual, are essential.
  • The candidate should be a self-starter with a passion for problem-solving, an understanding that project success comes through teamwork, and a firm focus on client needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Jr. Architectural Designer working within the rail/transit sector is preferred but not required.
  • Transit Architecture design experience including station and related facilities is not required.
  • Experience in the transportation sector is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in Rhino, 3-D Max, Sketch-up is a plus
  • LEED Accreditation is also a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work with, and coordinate, an architectural/engineering team in preparing documents for projects focused on transportation.
  • Perform the initial design phase, detailed phases of Architectural design work for projects requiring interface and collaboration with various disciplines, clients, and consultants.
  • Prepare Architectural plans, and/or supervise their execution.
  • Perform analysis of design and construction systems, planning studies, design layouts, and construction details.
  • Oversee research used in writing specifications, including coordinating with manufacturers.
  • Conduct site and construction inspections for information-gathering purposes, preparing interpretive reports.
  • Execute code analysis, material selections, and technical solutions.
  • Analyze design and construction systems, design layouts, and construction features, which require researching, compiling, and recording information for assigned project work.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, manage, and oversee the work.
  • Determine collectively with multiple design disciplines, the technical approach and design criteria for projects.
  • Work with architectural staff under architectural lead in a team.
  • Develop design details, plans and specifications.
  • Use computer software as a design tool for solving complex architectural problems.
  • Contribute new designs, or techniques that are of material significance in the solution of important problems.
  • Remain current in codes and technologies appropriate to the architecture discipline including IBC, NFPA, etc.
  • Ensure conformance with standards, established architectural practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction.
  • Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
