About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is seeking an Architectural Designer to assist in managing all phases of design projects, from programming and schematic design through construction administration. This role involves technical development of construction documents, quality assurance, team collaboration, and coordination with consultants. The Architectural Designer will also be responsible for preparing presentations, researching materials and products, and ensuring compliance with jurisdictional requirements and permitting processes. The position requires a commitment to community medicine and providing culturally competent care to the medically underserved.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design preferred.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience drafting at an Architectural and/or Engineering firm.
  • Working experience and proficiency with AutoCad and Revit.
  • Demonstrated and strong design and graphic skills.
  • Knowledge of commonly used architectural concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of architectural detailing.
  • Knowledge of building codes, applicable OSHPD and other Healthcare related design requirements to include construction materials and methods, and graphic standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with the permitting process.
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job.
  • Must have a car, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended.
  • An acceptable driving record is also required.
  • California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver’s license within ten days of establishing residency.
  • Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing every phase of the design projects from programming and schematic design to construction administration.
  • With input from the Project Manager and/or Architect, responsible for the design and technical development of project construction documents through all phases of the design process.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining QA/QC of technical documentation process through all phases.
  • Provide oversight to project team on delegated tasks and work in collaboration with project team.
  • Review, track, and address design team member’s and Consultants on day-to-day questions or issues related to drawing coordination, organization and detailing.
  • Provide information, development support and training to team members through office training processes and procedures designed to expand and enhance skills of other team members.
  • Participate in on-site meetings, review submittals, respond to RFIs, and execute punch walks.
  • Prepare design presentations and renderings when needed.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with project consultants to include outside Architecture firms, Structural, MEP and Civil Engineers.
  • Research and evaluate materials and products, and/or consult with manufacturers on installation details and warranty information.
  • Research jurisdictional requirements, i.e., applicable codes, submittal/plan check processes.
  • Identify and prepare necessary applications, documentation, and plans for the permitting process.
  • May independently research unfamiliar code sections and construction details.
  • Ensure quality and timely completion of design projects are conducted through prior planning and communicating with project team to ensure productivity is proceeding in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
