About The Position

This is administrative and professional architectural/engineering work in design review, project management, contract administration, construction monitoring and inspection of a wide range of the largest and most complex Capital Improvement projects. Employee performs hands-on project work, develops and makes adjustments to objectives, budgets, schedules, and priorities. Employee reviews technical documents and makes administrative decisions throughout all phases of a project, including planning and programming. Duties and responsibilities also include construction management and contract administration. Employee is responsible for cost estimating, designer selections, design contract management, and review of designs for spatial relationships and functionality. Employee conducts needs/wants assessments, project feasibility studies, initial cost estimating and project programming. The schematic design, design development, and construction and final drawings are performed by outside (i.e. private firms) at the direction of the employee and are reviewed for compliance with budgets, programming, applicable building codes, materials use, constructability, maintainability, life safety codes, special codes or design standards, and accepted architectural/engineering practices. Review of designs include site/civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and all other disciplines related to projects. Employee is responsible for compliance with G.S.143 to include contract and purchasing statutes. Employee will coordinate and comply with the Authority Having Jurisdiction over State buildings for renovations, repairs, and code compliance. Employee will stay current with research into new materials and design or construction techniques. Work includes performing construction management and contract administration, reviewing and approving change orders and site planning of projects. Employee is responsible for plan review projects, and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. This position provides advanced professional and technical leadership by developing design standards, specifications updates, and performs as a single point of contact for individual Capital Improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or an engineering discipline related to the area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience as a registered architect; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
  • Valid license to practice architecture granted by the North Carolina Board of Architecture.
