About The Position

Coordinates the activities of personnel involved in designing and overseeing facility and capital construction projects within Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Collaborates with Capital Improvements, Facilities Maintenance, Construction Project Management, and other departments as well as consultants to develop and maintain CTA facilities. Employees and/or union members will be given priority consideration in the hiring process, per the applicable labor contracts. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field with eight years of experience as an architect, or a combination of education and experience relating to this position.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural engineering theories, principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prepare detailed and concise analytical reports.
  • Ability to prepare and evaluate construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and related documents.
  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity and fingering for working with computer keyboards.
  • Must be able to traverse elevated catwalks and climb ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineer preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs project management duties. Duties include: initiating scope of project, preparing documents relating to capital budget, material estimates, purchase requisitions, and conducting regular progress meetings.
  • Verifies project designs are compliant to CTA specifications and Chicago Department of Building Code.
  • Acts in a liaison capacity and serves as technical representative between municipal agencies, contractors, consultants and other entities in regards to Architectural matters.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and conducts field inspections relative to associated design projects, checking for completeness and compliance to Authority standards.
  • Conducts informal teaching/training classes for Architects, Engineers and Draftsmen.
  • Works in conjunction with engineers and government organizations to oversee the design of projects.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports relating to the findings of inspections and investigations.
  • Develops and reviews specifications, standards, and construction drawings for the Authority’s capital and maintenance projects.
  • Prepares and reviews sketches, drawings, cost estimates, specifications and technical reports.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
