Archaeology Field Technician
About The Position
Timmons Group and Dutton + Associates, LLC (D+A) is seeking a full-time Archaeology Field Technician for their Archaeology Group in Richmond, VA. This role involves implementing survey methods and documenting findings under the direction of Archaeology Field Supervisors, adhering to all applicable standards and guidelines. The position requires carrying out various archaeological investigations (Phase I, II, III, and monitoring) in a Cultural Resources Management setting, conducting excavations outdoors in diverse weather and environments, and supporting other field and laboratory activities. A strong emphasis is placed on a "Safety First" approach, with additional duties including artifact processing, reporting, research, and technical services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field from a recognized program
- Experience conducting Phase I archaeological surveys
- Ability to implement archaeological field methodologies efficiently and at a brisk pace
- Ability to lift and carry 40lbs across diverse terrain for long distances and in a variety of weather conditions
- A valid state driver’s license and good driving record

Responsibilities
- Carry out archaeological investigations (Phase I identification, Phase II evaluation, Phase III data recovery, and archaeological monitoring) in a Cultural Resources Management setting
- Conduct archaeological excavation outdoors in all weather conditions in both rural and urban environments; with overnight stays on out-of-town projects when required
- Work with and provide support to other members of the Archaeology Group in assisting with other field and laboratory activities as required
- Demonstrate a “Safety First” focus
- Perform other duties as required, including but not limited to, artifact processing, reporting, research, and technical services
