About The Position

WestLand Engineering and Environmental Services, a Trinity Consultants team, is seeking on-call Archaeology Field Technicians for their growing Washington and Oregon teams. The company tackles complex environmental challenges, blending expertise in environmental consulting, wetlands, cultural resources, GIS, landscape architecture, and engineering. They offer a collaborative environment where professionals work together on meaningful and impactful projects, delivering solutions that help clients navigate regulatory complexities and achieve positive project outcomes. The successful candidates can be based out of WestLand's Portland, Seattle, or Spokane offices. Crews can be found working throughout the West on CRM projects for private and public sector clients. For out-of-town work that includes overnight or longer duration stays, per diem and single-occupancy hotel rooms are provided.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field. Prior on-the-job archeology experience may substitute for educational requirements.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in environments featuring extreme temperatures, rough terrain, and potential high altitudes.
  • Ability to carry up to 60 pounds of equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to bend and kneel for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel out of town for work throughout the West, often on short notice and for extended periods (paid drive time, per diem and/or hotel provided).
  • Ability to work as a member of a cohesive team.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and creative environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in archaeology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting archaeological field work (field survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery excavations) under the direction of a field supervisor.
  • Recording artifacts, features, and other manifestations using Trimble GIS, mapping archaeological features and sites, drawing scaled profiles and plans, and maintaining paperwork, notes, and records under the direction of a field supervisor.
  • Processing and cataloging artifacts and other materials under lab staff supervision.
  • Performing preliminary analysis and lab tasks under lab staff supervision.
  • Filing and scanning records and paperwork.
  • Completing record searches and report tables under supervision of senior staff.
