Brockington and Associates is seeking a field archaeologist and project manager based in our Savannah, GA office for archaeological field work throughout the US. Requirements

  • MA/MHP/MS in archaeology, anthropology, history, or historic preservation
  • Two to four years of experience managing archaeological field projects
  • Applied knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
  • Working familiarity of other environmental statutes and regulations
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to perform physical labor
  • Ability to spend time in outdoor conditions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work professionally with clients and government agencies
  • Ability to supervise the work of others
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and execute detailed research designs
  • Conduct fieldwork - including archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery investigations
  • Lead projects, including field, lab, and reporting efforts, as Principal Investigator
  • Identify prehistoric and historic artifacts and features in the field
  • Effectively discuss projects with colleagues, clients, and review agencies
  • Prepare and manage budgets and schedules
  • Write professional technical reports and publications
  • Work as a member of a diverse team, manage projects and people, and complete other delegated project tasks
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, agencies, the public, media, subcontractors, and office staff throughout the life of a project
  • Set up and manage projects in Otis (Brockington’s project management software)
  • Execute the research design and for the collection, storage, and transfer of field data, including artifacts, notes, photographs, GPS files, and other associated records, to the appropriate lab or GIS personnel
  • Create and disseminate the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for each project
  • Lead by example with respect to work ethic, judgment, technical expertise, and health and safety
  • Be active participants in their professional development, including continuing education, training, and participation in professional conferences
  • Stay current with research trends to generate appropriate research designs and work plans
  • Develop one or more areas of specialization
  • Be strong technical writers
