About The Position

Arcadis is seeking an entry-level Archaeologist to support environmental planning projects, primarily in California, with potential for occasional work outside the state. This role involves conducting archaeological fieldwork at all investigation levels, including survey, testing, excavation, evaluation, site recording, and construction monitoring. The position also requires preparing technical reports and related documentation. The successful applicant will collaborate with a diverse, multidisciplinary team across the U.S. and must possess excellent time and workload management skills for a fast-paced environment. Arcadis offers a flexible, hybrid work structure, allowing for remote and office-based work as project demands dictate. Travel to various project sites, including overnight stays, is required, with field work expectations potentially reaching and occasionally exceeding 50%. As a Consultant, you will be instrumental in driving innovation and building strong technical communities within the Enviro Socio Permitting practice, gaining experience in various environmental projects, mainly focused on utility infrastructure, while also supporting the growth of specific client accounts in California. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology/archaeology
  • 1 year of experience in cultural resources management.
  • Demonstrated practical field experience in California.
  • Working knowledge of GPS systems and the collection of field data.
  • Basic knowledge of California tribes, culture areas, and material culture.
  • Basic knowledge of cultural resources management, regulatory requirements, and environmental laws.
  • Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours.
  • Ability to carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work in the field under a range of conditions (e.g., rugged and remote locations, weather extremes).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork for projects at all levels of investigation, including survey, testing excavation and evaluation, site recording, and construction monitoring.
  • Prepare technical reports and related documentation.
  • Apply technical knowledge to support archaeological services over a range of sectors, including linear utilities, oil and gas, mining, rail and transit, and renewable energies.
  • Conduct cultural resources surveys.
  • On occasion, manage small field crews for larger projects.
  • Author technical documents and provide survey details and results to project teams.
