On-Call Archaeological Technician

About The Position
Provide archaeological support that may include archaeological surveys, testing, or excavations, along with corresponding documentation. The position follows strict safety standards and assists with archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher. Work takes place outdoors, including in remote locations and varied environmental conditions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
- Completion of an archaeological field school from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
- Basic knowledge of artifact identification, soils, and stratigraphy.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to use Global Positioning Systems.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable violation history.
Responsibilities
- Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.
- Participate in pre-task planning.
- Report safety issues or concerns to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- Assist with archaeological fieldwork, including surveys, excavations, artifact collection, and basic documentation.
- Conduct archaeological surveys or excavations using common archaeological tools and methods under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher.
- Identify artifacts and basic stratigraphy, and record information on standardized forms.
- Assist more senior staff with other tasks as needed.
- Maintain equipment.
- Communicate basic information to the Crew Chief or Archaeologist.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
