Individuals MUST be currently located within the greater Austin area. The Temporary/Seasonal Archaeological Field Technician shall assist the RKI Cultural Resources Compliance (CRC) team with a variety of projects, including but not limited to pedestrian surveys, shovel testing, field site documentation, National Register of Historic Places eligibility testing, unit excavations, and data recovery efforts. The Temporary/Seasonal Archaeological Field Technician may also support the laboratory processing and curation preparation activities associated with projects. This position will support the firm’s objectives of meeting our clients’ expectations in a timely manner and lead by example to set high standards for creativity and inter-office and intra-office cooperation.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or Historic Preservation, or a closely related field and the completion of an accredited archaeological field school.
  • Minimum of one-year related experience
  • Knowledge of and practical experience with archaeological field methods and techniques.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet company’s auto insurability requirements
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions, labels, reports, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information both written and oral and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with the Principal Investigator, Project Archaeologist, and other employees of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Field Technician on various cultural resource projects.
  • Conduct archaeological investigations for survey, testing, and data recovery projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
