About The Position

Versar Global Solutions is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians to support basic fieldwork initiatives. The Archaeological Field Technician will conduct a variety of basic archaeological fieldwork activities, including extended pedestrian survey, in-field analysis, shovel test pit (STP) excavation, test unit excavation, site documentation, and completion of archaeological site forms. Field Technicians will also provide general administrative and field support, as assigned, for large-block archaeological surveys, National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) evaluation projects, testing and evaluation efforts, and data recovery investigations.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
  • Successful completion of an archaeological field school.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting archaeological surveys and site documentation.
  • Fundamental knowledge and experience using GPS/GNSS technology and other field mapping tools.
  • Ability to identify and document prehistoric and historic archaeological materials and features.
  • Experience conducting shovel test pits (STPs), test unit excavations, and basic artifact and feature analyses.
  • Ability to take clear, high-quality field photographs and maintain accurate, detailed field notes.
  • Ability to assist crew leaders with archaeological site forms, field records, maps, and other documentation associated with survey and testing projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in remote field environments and under variable field conditions.
  • Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
  • Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
  • Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date.

  • Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary archaeological crew.
  • Willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibilities in the field.
  • Prior archaeological experience in New Mexico and/or far West Texas is preferred but not required.
