About The Position

As our On-Call Archaeological Field Technician for our Environmental Planning Services Team in Seattle, you'll support meaningful cultural resource projects through fieldwork and documentation, helping preserve history across Washington and beyond. Please note: this position is for consideration for inclusion on our on-call roster for future project-based assignments in the Seattle area, with work anticipated to begin in January 2027 as projects are secured.

Requirements

  • Prior archaeological field training or experience in an academic or professional setting
  • Ability to navigate using GPS and traverse uneven terrain on foot while carrying equipment
  • Ability to reliably identify a wide array of archaeological artifacts and features common to Washington and outlying areas
  • Ability to accurately observe, describe, and record soils, sediments, and cultural resources on standardized digital and analog forms
  • Ability to positively represent the shared values of Psomas and its clients while effectively collaborating and communicating with a variety of teammates and project partners
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation and a clean driving record
  • Resides in Western Washington- this opening requires candidates to reside in the Seattle vicinity and/or make the daily commute to Seattle

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field
  • Prior experience with archaeological field survey, hand excavation, and construction monitoring in Washington
  • Ability to operate 4x4 vehicles in remote or undeveloped terrain, as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform archaeological field surveys, excavation, construction monitoring, and documentation in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines and requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with construction crews, field staff, and project teams.
  • Maintain monitoring logs and provide regular status updates to project management.
  • Identify cultural resources in the field and communicate requirements with construction personnel, including Tribal representatives.
