About The Position

As an Arborist, you will play a key role in shaping environmentally responsible communities across Eastern Ontario. Working within our integrated Landscape Architecture, Arboriculture, and Urban Forestry practice, you will contribute your technical expertise and field experience to projects that balance development with environmental stewardship. This role offers a rewarding mix of field and office work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Technology, or a related field.
  • Approximately 6+ years of professional experience in consulting arboriculture or urban forestry.
  • ISA Certified Arborist designation (completed or actively in progress).
  • Strong tree identification, health assessment, and impact evaluation skills.
  • Experience working with municipal tree by-laws and Conservation Authority regulations in Ontario.
  • Proficiency with CAD for Tree Preservation and Restoration Plans; GIS experience is an asset.
  • Solid project management skills, including task planning, time management, and invoicing.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the GTA and Southern/Eastern Ontario for fieldwork.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed tree inventories, assessments, and arboriculture field investigations.
  • Lead and support tree protection by-law compliance, including defining study scopes and preparing tree removal permit applications.
  • Develop and contribute to large-scale arboriculture studies and tree compensation programs.
  • Assess impacts to trees from proposed developments and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare clear, well-structured arborist reports, proposals, and technical documentation.
  • Develop Tree Preservation and Restoration Plans using CAD and related tools.
  • Represent WSP in meetings with clients, municipalities, and project stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance on the implementation of tree protection measures, including site visits when required.
