About The Position

The YMCA of the National Capital Region is seeking an Aquatics Supervisor to provide day-to-day operational leadership for the Aquatics department. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality programs, exceptional member experiences, and compliance with YMCA and legislative standards. The Aquatics Supervisor will lead frontline staff and volunteers by providing coaching, training, scheduling support, performance feedback, and operational guidance, while fostering a positive, accountable, and service-focused team culture. The position is responsible for the daily operation of aquatic programs and services, including staff supervision, program quality, participation growth, scheduling, certifications, member experience, and regulatory compliance. The role involves monitoring program performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing strategies to increase participation, retention, and operational efficiency. Collaborating with the General Manager and other department leaders, the Aquatics Supervisor supports departmental goals through effective leadership, continuous improvement, staff development, and data-informed decision-making. This position serves as the operational lead for aquatics during assigned shifts and contributes to the overall success of the Health, Fitness & Aquatics department.

Requirements

• Fluent in English, oral and written
• Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in aquatics, including lifeguarding, instruction, supervision, and program administration.
• Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience, including staff scheduling, coaching, performance management, and training.
• Experience developing staff schedules, monitoring program participation, and implementing strategies to improve program quality, member experience, and operational performance.
• Experience using recreation management software, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite to manage registrations, schedules, certifications, reporting, and operational data.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and customer service skills with the ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification.
• Current National Lifeguard (NL) certification.
• Current WHMIS certification.
• Valid permit to work in Canada.
• A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operation of the aquatics department, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality program delivery.
• Monitor program participation, registrations, fill rates, and staffing levels, making recommendations to improve operational performance and member experience.
• Analyze schedules, staffing requirements, certifications, and program demand to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient use of resources.
• Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and support aquatic staff and volunteers, providing ongoing performance feedback and identifying development opportunities.
• Participate in Duty Manager coverage and collaborate with other departments to support overall branch operations.
