About The Position

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. The aquatics lead also provides limited administrative assistance and acts as a role model and knowledge resource for other frontline aquatics staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Current YMCA Lifeguarding, American Safety & Health Institute or American Red Cross or American Heart Association BLS for the Professional Rescuer First Aid certification
  • Emergency Oxygen Administration Certified
  • American Red Cross Lifeguards must obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to maintain required certification
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years lifeguard experience, preferred.
  • YMCA Lifeguard Instructor

Responsibilities

  • Provides continuous, uninterrupted scanning of pool and aquatic area.
  • Follows Minimum Standards of Safety for Aquatic Activities 7.301.
  • Understands and consistently enforces safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff.
  • Parent engagement during swim lessons
  • Reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Completes related reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
  • Plays an active role in continuing to identify ways to improve safety standards.
  • Continuously monitors aquatic area for hazardous or unsafe conditions.
  • Immediately reports all hazardous or unsafe conditions to management and takes appropriate action.
  • Uses problem solving skills to make quick decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, and recognize the potential for danger or injury.
  • Successfully completes and pass periodic aquatic safety assessments.
  • Sustain and demonstrate the listed physical demands below:
  • Assist Regional Aquatics Director in the staff development of lifeguards and swim instructors by providing mentoring and coaching to Aquatics staff:
  • Provides deck supervision
  • Assisting with formalized Swim Instructor observations/coaching
  • Conducts regular lifeguard drills and provides staff immediate feedback
  • Report staff and member issues/concerns to Aquatics Director.
  • Enforce all Aquatic safety rules and report safety violations to Aquatics Director.
  • Assist Aquatics Director with administrative duties as assigned.
  • Enter schedules, provided by Aquatic Directors, into Paycom in adherence of associations Time Keeping Policy
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
