About The Position

The Aquatics Manager oversees the daily operation, programming, staffing, and safety of the Resort's aquatics facilities, including indoor and outdoor pools, spas, and water features. This is a working management role: in addition to supervising aquatics staff and coordinating operations, the Aquatics Manager personally instructs classes such as aqua aerobics, provides lifeguard coverage as needed, and is present on deck during peak periods. The Aquatics Manager develops and executes a full slate of aquatics programming for resort guests of all ages and ensures that all aquatics activities are conducted safely and in compliance with Company standards and applicable New York State health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current Lifeguard certification (American Red Cross or equivalent).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (professional rescuer level).
  • Demonstrated experience leading aqua aerobics or group water-fitness instruction.
  • Prior experience supervising or leading aquatics staff in a pool, resort, club, or similar setting.
  • Ability to develop and manage programming and schedules and to maintain accurate operational and safety records.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and peak summer season.

Nice To Haves

  • Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and/or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification, or willingness to obtain it promptly.
  • Group-fitness or aquatic-fitness instructor credential (e.g., AEA or equivalent).
  • Experience in a large resort, hotel, or multi-pool aquatics operation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, schedule, and execute a seasonal and year-round aquatics programming calendar, including aqua aerobics, group water-fitness classes, swim lessons, family and children's water activities, and special pool events.
  • Personally lead aqua aerobics and other water-fitness or instructional sessions on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate aquatics programming with the Recreation, Entertainment, and Food & Beverage teams for resort events and activities at the pool.
  • Gather guest feedback and adjust programming to reflect demand, seasonality, and guest demographics.
  • Serve as a lifeguard and provide direct pool supervision and lifeguard coverage as scheduling and operational needs require.
  • Maintain, communicate, and enforce all aquatics safety rules, bather-load limits, and posted regulations.
  • Develop, maintain, and drill the aquatics Emergency Action Plan (EAP); lead emergency response, rescues, and first aid as needed.
  • Ensure all required safety and rescue equipment is present, accessible, and in good condition.
  • Complete and maintain incident reports, accident documentation, and required safety records.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards, instructors, and seasonal aquatics staff in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Verify and track that all aquatics staff hold current and valid lifeguard, CPR/AED, and first aid certifications.
  • Conduct regular in-service training, skills audits, and safety drills for aquatics staff.
  • Manage daily staffing levels and shift coverage to maintain required supervision at all open aquatics facilities.
  • Oversee daily opening, operation, and closing of aquatics facilities, including seasonal opening and winterization.
  • Monitor water quality and coordinate with maintenance and pool-technician staff on water chemistry, filtration, and equipment, maintaining required daily logs and records.
  • Ensure operations comply with the New York State Sanitary Code (10 NYCRR Subpart 6-1) and any Sullivan County Department of Health requirements applicable to the facilities.
  • Assist with budget input, scheduling of supplies and equipment, and inventory of aquatics and programming materials.
  • Respond to and resolve guest questions and concerns regarding aquatics facilities and programming, escalating as appropriate.
  • Follow and enforce all Company health, safety, and conduct standards set forth in the Employee Handbook.
