About The Position

Human Resources announces an opening for (1.0) Aquatics Manager. This is a full-time, in-person, Grade E-04 position. Under the direction of the Director or Aquatics, the Aquatics Manager will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient management of the operations and the school and community-based programs at the APS Aquatic Centers.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding and water rescue techniques.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations required for the safe operation of aquatics programs and facilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of swimming lesson plans and effective methods of instructing children, youth, and adults.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety instructional techniques.
  • Experience in selection, training, assigning, supervising, and evaluating aquatic instructional staff.
  • Ability to instruct large groups of elementary and high school age children in basic and advanced aquatic skills.
  • Experience in selection, training, assigning, supervising and lifeguards, pool operators and swimming instructors.
  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of facility rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of aquatic facility management concepts, including patron surveillance, and water quality and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, aquatics, maintenance and physical education staff, and the public.
  • Excellent Public relations and leadership skills.
  • Good knowledge of revenue and expense budget development and management principles; knowledge of procedures employed in the collection and reporting of revenue.
  • Experience managing facility supply inventory.
  • An ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff and citizens in a positive, friendly, professional manner.
  • Knowledge of modern supervisory principles and practices.
  • Ability to concentrate on details and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare correspondence and reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of computer applications, including word processing, and other software.
  • Ability to participate in professional development activities and staff meetings, as requested or assigned.
  • Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent training in recreational or aquatic facility management or a closely related area, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skill, and ability.
  • Candidate must have training as a pool operator and considerable experience as a swimming instructor and lifeguard.
  • Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, first aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration. certification.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certificate.
  • Lifeguarding instructor certification.
  • Training as a swimming pool operator from an accredited local or national organization.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid vehicle operator's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Instructor trainer certification is preferred.
  • Certification as an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety of the patrons by enforcing facility rules, regulations and APS policies and procedures.
  • Responds to emergency situations and renders appropriate first aid.
  • Participates in the day-to-day management of the aquatics facilities operations including water filter systems, water quality and safety conditions.
  • Participates as needed in the delivery of community and school-based instruction programs and/or the operation of the pools to ensure service delivery continuity.
  • Participates in the annual program schedule and course offerings for community-based programs for the assigned facility.
  • Instructs students in the elementary and high school water safety program as assigned.
  • Participates in the selection of and supervises the pool operator, instructor and lifeguarding staff.
  • Supervises and performs lifeguard duties for middle school and high school swim team practices and swim meets.
  • Monitors the implementation of the instructional program as assigned to ensure compliance with established curriculum.
  • Provides support to swimming instructors and program staff to ensure the safe, professional and successful delivery of instructional program.
  • Collaborates in the planning and delivery of site-specific staff in-service sessions for operational and instructional staff.
  • Supervises the submission semi-monthly timecards for assigned staff.
  • Manages the class registration process including confirmations, cancellations, and refunds.
  • Monitors expenses and revenues based on established financial/budget targets, and completes weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on attendance, expenses and revenues as assigned.
  • Supervises and participates in the completion and reporting of daily tasks in accordance with aquatics standard operating procedures.
  • Supervises the overall care and cleaning of the facility by the pool staff and coordinates with school’s custodial department as appropriate.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair of swimming pool and building equipment, and initiates the work order process as needed.
  • Monitors registration desk activities, and collection of fees.
  • Identifies and initiates requests for office, custodial and pool equipment and chemical supplies.
  • Responds to patron inquiries and concerns.
  • Ensures timely and adequate overall communication with patrons regarding items such as schedule changes, lane availability etc.
