About The Position

The Aquatics Maintenance Technician is responsible for all aquatic facility maintenance, including mechanical and chemical maintenance and risk management, ensuring high-quality and safe facilities for patrons. This position is responsible for the overall mechanical and chemical processes of three year-round indoor pools, three outdoor pools, and two outdoor splash pads (May through September).

Requirements

• Knowledge of all aspects of aquatic facility electrical/mechanical/chemical operations. This includes chemical handling and interactions, chemical controllers and feeders, pool pumps and piping, pool boilers, filtration, UV and VFD equipment.
• Knowledge of operations of pool vacuums and pressure washers, general maintenance repairs, and use of personal protective equipment.
• Knowledge of computers and technology that pertain to everyday use.
• Knowledge of current Colorado Department of Health and Safety swimming pool regulations.
• Possess and maintain a Colorado driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to operate general office equipment (computer, copier, fax, phone, etc.).
• Proficiency with applicable computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, POS/Registration) and district-wide computer software systems.
• Must be CPR/first aid certified within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, organize and monitor multiple facility repair and maintenance functions, work under minimal supervision, and assume responsibility for task initiatives and completion.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
• Make sound decisions and use good judgment in stressful situations.
• Analyze situations thoroughly, identify problems, and find practical solutions.
• Ability to perform critical decision-making quickly without notice to maintain a safe work environment.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• High school diploma/GED required.
• Two years of experience in aquatic facility maintenance and mechanical/chemical operations or similar mechanical systems.
• Must possess a current and valid Colorado driver's license.
• CPR, first aid, and AED certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
• A pool Operator (CPO) or NRPA Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) Certificate is required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the overall mechanical and chemical operations of Arvada Aquatics Center, Apex Center Pools and Splashpad, Secrest Wellness Pool, Secrest Outdoor Pool, Fitzmorris Outdoor Pool, Lake Arbor Pool, and Ralston Splashpad.
• Oversees daily mechanical and chemical maintenance at all pool facilities and performs routine maintenance, repair, and diagnostics on standard swimming pool equipment, including, but not limited to, plumbing, chemical feeders, chemical controllers, filters, boilers, electrical equipment, UV and VFD equipment.
• Performs emergency repair of all pool facility-related equipment.
• Orders and distributes supplies, chemicals, parts, etc., to all pools as needed.
• Plans and supervises preseason preparation, daily operation, and winterizing of outdoor pools.
• Research/suggest purchases of maintenance parts and equipment and facility-related operating supplies.
• Responsible for training aquatic management staff in daily maintenance operations, chemical monitoring and handling, and hazardous material training.
• Responsible for the development of mechanical and chemical risk management programs.
• Completes tasks received through work order system.
• Attends aquatic management and other district meetings as required by the director of district services, manager of building maintenance, including assignments unrelated to aquatics.
• Attends training and other professional development opportunities as approved by the manager of building maintenance.
• Resolves concerns, problems, and conflicts and supports staff with building emergencies as needed.
• Responds to maintenance work orders as necessary.
• Promotes, schedules, and maintains accurate pool and mechanical maintenance records.
• Completes daily, monthly, periodic, year-end, and other reports as needed.
• Research/suggest purchases of maintenance parts and equipment supplies.
• Assists the aquatics manager of recreation services with purchasing necessary equipment and supplies.
• Maintains accurate inventory of maintenance supplies at each facility.
• Makes recommendations for capital improvement and equipment maintenance and requirements.
• Works cooperatively with other district services staff, as necessary, to achieve quality facility and pool operations.
• Drives district vehicles, occasionally with passengers, to work locations and approved events.
• Works with parks and grounds department for snow removal on district property.
• May be responsible for supervising part-time employees.
• Plans, coordinates, and schedules routine aquatic management training for mechanical and chemical operations, hazardous material, and risk management training, ensuring safety throughout the aquatics and district services divisions.
