About The Position

The 3215 Aquatics Facility Supervisor directs, administers and supervises the activities, operations and maintenance of an assigned aquatic facility. Responsibilities include the development, preparation, execution, and supervision of all aquatics-related programs and staff; and oversight of facility maintenance. The Aquatics Facility Supervisor performs the following essential duties: Planning, scheduling, supervising, and participating in the work of aquatic staff responsible for providing pool safety and recreational services Tracking time and attendance, conducting skill assessments, providing and/or coordinating training and maintaining records of relevant certifications and other work-related records. Monitoring performance; and correcting deficiencies through coaching and progressive discipline Planning, developing, and scheduling pool activities, and programs; ensuring that aquatic activities meet local needs; overseeing the collection of revenues and fees Making recommendations for staffing, supplies, equipment, and facility improvements; maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment; submitting requisitions of supplies Assisting in the development of policies, procedures and safety rules relating to aquatic facility, programs, pool personnel and the public Coordinating community relations to promote partnerships and collaboration in aquatics programs; arranging for marketing and communication of programs; preparing, updating and distributing a variety of brochures, calendars, posters, flyers, public presentations and meeting agendas and related communications regarding aquatics programs Conducting public meetings; responding to public inquiries and complaints; collecting and evaluating data on operations, activities and programs; preparing various reports and documentation related to accidents or incidents, program effectiveness, patron participation and satisfaction Performing swim instruction and water safety, when necessary, by teaching swim lessons, enforcing rules, making rescues and rendering First Aid and/or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Assuming responsibility in cases of accidents; directing and participating in the maintenance of aquatic facilities; monitoring pool water chemistry, taking water quality samples Inspecting and observing facility to ensure maintenance of safety standards, sanitary conditions and orderly conduct; completing work orders for repairs; coordinating with custodial, engineering or other maintenance staff as necessary; ensuring chemicals, equipment and materials are properly handled and safely stored when not in use; ensuring regular and adequate cleaning of surrounding pool area, lobby, changing rooms and deck Performing other related duties as required. Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university preferably in recreation, physical education or a related field; OR equivalent experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis (30 semester units or 45 quarter units equal one year/2000 hours).
  • Two (2) years (equivalent to 4,000 hours) of full-time experience as a swimming instructor and lifeguard including a minimum of one (1) year (2,000 hours) as a lifeguard and six (6) months (1,000 hours) as a swimming instructor; OR One (1) year (2,000 hours) of experience equivalent to class 3213 Aquatic Facility Assistant Supervisor.
  • Possession of a Lifeguarding Certification issued by the American Red Cross or an equivalent certified issuing agency.
  • Possession of a CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified issuing agency.
  • Possession of an Oxygen Administration Certification for the Professional Rescuer issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified issuing agency.
  • Possession of a Water Safety Instruction Certification issued by the American Red Cross or an equivalent certified issuing agency OR Fitness Professional certificate issued by the Aquatic Exercise Association or equivalent certified issuing agency.
  • Possession of an Aquatic Facility Operator Certification issued by the National Recreation and Park Association OR possession of a Certified Pool Operator Certification issued by the National Swimming Pool Foundation (can be obtained either at time of hire or within six (6) months of appointment).
  • Possession of a Lifeguard Instructor Certification issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified issuing agency.
  • Must be able to obtain First Aid for Public Safety Personnel in accordance with Title 22 requirements issued by the American Red Cross within six (6) months of appointment.
  • Must maintain all current/valid required certifications throughout their employment.
