About The Position

Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member and community-focused YMCA aquatic programs. The Director will direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives and goals. This includes establishing new program activities and expanding programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans, and developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with community organizations. The role also involves recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling, and directing personnel and volunteers, and reviewing and evaluating staff performance. Additionally, the Director will conduct regular sanitation of equipment and assigned areas, monitor daily pool operations to adhere to health and safety regulations, and ensure aquatic safety best practices are in place. This includes conducting safety drills and ensuring staff awareness of emergency protocols. The Director is responsible for the maintenance of pool(s), securing and scheduling pool facilities, and maintaining accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. They will also conduct or assure lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings, create and schedule aquatics programs, assist in marketing program information, develop and monitor program budgets, and assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. The role requires modeling relationship-building skills, responding to member inquiries, assisting with Program Committee meetings, compiling program statistics, and serving as a Cause Driven Leader on Duty.

Requirements

Minimum of three (3) years of related experience required
Certified Pool Operator required. Preferred before hire, or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification required
CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire
Within 30 days of hire, completion of YMCA program-specific and Operational trainings: Blood Borne Pathogen, Ten Commandments of Effective Lifeguarding, Child Abuse Prevention and Recognition, Incident Reporting, Bullying, Active Shooter, Allergies, Driver Safety, Harassment, Proper Lifting, New Employee Orientation and Program and Financial Operation Trainings
Completion of YMCA aquatics training and trainer certifications.
Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics.
Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect.

Nice To Haves

Associates Degree preferred.
In lieu of Associates Degree, High School diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency and 2-3 years of the related work experience.
Three (3) years supervisor and/or leadership experience preferred, ex. head Lifeguard, aquatics coordinator or supervisor
Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred

Responsibilities

Conducts regular/ frequent sanitation of all equipment (rescue and member used), and assigned areas as outlined by YMCA Leadership.
Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and federal, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
Ensures aquatic safety best practices are in place throughout the branch and that a culture of aquatic safety is developed by conducting safety drills that involves multiple departments and assures team adhesiveness in an emergency.
Ensures that all staff members are aware of protocols when responding to an emergency in the facility.
Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool(s).
Secures and schedules pool facilities.
Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
Conducts/Assures lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings are delivered.
Creates and schedules YMCA aquatics programs (such as swim lessons, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets).
Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
Develops and monitors safety, swim team and program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
Assists with Program Committee meetings.
Compiles program statistics.
Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
Serve as a Cause Driven Leader on Duty (CDLOD).
Performs other duties as assigned.
