About The Position

The YMCA is seeking an experienced and effective leader to become an Aquatic Coordinator. This role involves leading a team of lifeguards, swim instructors, and coaches. The ideal candidate is 18 years or older and has a passion for aquatics and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Have at least 2 years of aquatic leadership experience
  • Be available during program hours (including evenings/weekends)
  • Possess (or obtain within 30 days) a current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • Possess (or obtain within 30 days) a current CPR/AED & First Aid Certification
  • Possess (or obtain within 30 days) YMCA "Leader" Certification
  • Be able to pass a written/physical assessment prior to duty
  • Have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations
  • Have ability to observe participant activities adequately, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures
  • Red Cross Lifeguard Prerequisite Skills: 250 yard continuous swim (freestyle or breaststroke) demonstrating endurance and breath control (face in the water), then tread water for 2 minutes continuously using legs only (no hands), then swim 50 more yards using freestyle or breaststroke.
  • Brick rescue within 1 minute 40 seconds (without the use of goggles, swim 20 yards, dive 7-10 feet to retrieve 10lb object, return to starting point on back with both hands on brick, exit without using ladder or steps).
  • YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Prerequisite Skills: 25 yards Front Crawl (with side-breathing), 25 yards Back Crawl, 25 yards Breaststroke, 25 yards Butterfly (or your best attempt), 25 yards Side Stroke, 25 yards Elementary Backstroke

Nice To Haves

  • Possess a current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • Possess a current CPO or AFO certification
  • Possess a current YMCA "Team-Leader" Certification

Responsibilities

  • Hiring, training, and supervising Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and other aquatics staff and volunteers
  • Keeping skills fresh by planning, leading, and participating in In-service Training and Drills
  • Maintaining accurate records of pool usage, chemical readings, program participation, and staff certifications
  • Assisting with pump/chemical room maintenance duties
  • Developing, managing, and implementing the aquatics department budget (under the direction of the Aquatics Director)
  • Organizing and implementing special aquatics events both on- and off-site
  • Being a positive role model for youth in your community
  • Upholding the YMCA Policies and Standards
