The work helps ensure that projects follow state laws that protect streams, wetlands, and related habitats.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree with a major in a biological science, natural science, environmental science, or natural resource management, including or supplemented by six college credits in freshwater aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic botany, water pollution biology, entomology, limnology, or closely related aquatic science coursework; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six college credits in freshwater aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic botany, water pollution biology, entomology, limnology, or closely related aquatic science coursework.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
- Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
Responsibilities
- Conduct aquatic habitat investigations and assess site conditions for permitting decisions
- Analyze information in permit applications to support determinations under the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act and department regulations
- Compile research and documentation to support findings and confirm compliance with regulations
- Consult with local, state, and federal partners to support environmental reviews and planning efforts
- Document violations and contribute recommendations for corrective actions and legal responses
- Assist with educational programs and provide technical guidance to communities and organizations
