About The Position

The Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant (APRN/PA) will rotate with attending physicians and through all orthopedic subspecialties. This role involves assisting surgeons with clinic operations, organizing patient visits, and performing clinic procedures. Additionally, the APRN/PA will assist in the operating room, respond to pages, and conduct daily and PRN rounds on post-operative patients. The position also includes managing postoperative outpatient care, handling telephone inquiries, and filling prescriptions. A high level of expertise is required to assess, diagnose, and treat actual and potential patient problems.

Requirements

  • APRN: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with a Master's in Nursing
  • APRN: Valid Licenses as a Registered Nurse and APRN by the State of Arkansas
  • PA: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • PA: Valid license as a PA by the State of Arkansas
  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines).
  • Must have normal communication and sensory requirements.
  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as PA or Acute Care APRN
  • Prescriptive authority and a DEA license must be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgeon with clinic, organize visits, and perform clinic procedures.
  • Assist in the operating room.
  • Answer pages.
  • Round on post-operative patients on a daily and PRN basis.
  • Manage postoperative outpatient care.
  • Answer telephone inquiries.
  • Fill prescriptions.
  • Perform assessments/diagnosis/treatment of actual/potential patients problems.
  • Extend the patient care and administrative services of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences physicians.
  • Work autonomously, as well as, in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patients' health care problems.
  • Serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.
  • Coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.
  • Other duties may be assigned to this position.
