About The Position

The Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant works collaboratively with a physician and multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to outpatients. The APRN/PA is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs. Provide comprehensive outpatient infectious disease care under established collaborative practice agreements and institutional policies. Perform detailed patient assessments including history, physical examination, diagnostic interpretation, and formulation of treatment plans. Evaluate and manage patients with: o HIV/AIDS o Hepatitis and other chronic viral infections o Osteomyelitis and chronic bone/joint infections o Recurrent or multidrug-resistant infections o Complex wound and soft tissue infections o Fungal and parasitic infections o Fever of unknown origin o Immunocompromised host infections o Post-hospitalization infectious disease follow-up o Patients requiring long-term antimicrobial therapy

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing – Family Medicine
  • Three (3) years of nursing experience.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas
  • APRN License
  • 1 year of APRN experience in a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Clinic
  • National certification in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult Gero Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and Family Nurse Practitioner if an APRN
  • Master’s Degree – Physician Assistant
  • 1 year of PA experience in a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Clinic
  • PA License
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

  • 3 years of nursing experience
  • 3 years of APRN experience in a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Clinic
  • Previous experience in infectious diseases, internal medicine, primary care, hospital medicine, or related specialty preferred.
  • Experience managing chronic infectious diseases
  • Experience working in an academic medical center environment.
  • Interest in antimicrobial stewardship, quality improvement, or clinical education.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, adjust, and monitor antimicrobial therapies, including oral and intravenous antibiotic regimens.
  • Manage and monitor patients enrolled in Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) programs.
  • Review laboratory, microbiology, pathology, and radiologic data to guide clinical management.
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers, specialists, infusion centers, home health agencies, pharmacies, and case management teams.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, medications, infection prevention, and treatment adherence.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently within the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in telehealth services as appropriate.
  • Participate in the academic mission of the institution through collaboration with medical students, residents, fellows, APP students, and nursing staff.
  • Assist with education related to infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, HIV care, infection prevention, and evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in departmental conferences, continuing education activities, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • May assist with clinical research initiatives, quality improvement projects, presentations, publications, or protocol development.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
