About The Position

The Apprenticeship and Work-Based Learning Coordinator develops, implements, and expands apprenticeship and work-based learning opportunities that strengthen the regional workforce and respond to employer needs. Working closely with employers, faculty, workforce partners, students, and government agencies, this position connects Iowa Valley’s education and training programs with regional workforce needs. The coordinator serves as the primary institutional contact for U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship programs and assists employers with program development, registration, implementation, and ongoing compliance.

Requirements

Completion of a Bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of experience working with manufacturing employers, in a manufacturing environment, workforce development, apprenticeship administration, or a related field required.
Relevant experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.
Valid state driver’s license.
Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships with employers and community organizations.
Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to travel throughout the Iowa Valley service area and occasionally beyond the region.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in a community college, career and technical education, or economic development setting preferred.
Experience developing or administering U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship programs preferred.
Knowledge of U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship standards, registration procedures, and reporting requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and expand U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship programs in partnership with regional manufacturers, employers, industry associations, labor organizations, and workforce agencies.
Guide employers through the process of designing and registering apprenticeship programs, including identifying occupations, competencies, related technical instruction, wage progressions, and on-the job learning requirements.
Coordinate the development of standards of apprenticeship, work processes, training schedules, employer agreements, and required registration documents.
Serve as a liaison among employers, Iowa Valley faculty and staff, the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship, Iowa Workforce Development, and other appropriate agencies.
Support the creation of youth apprenticeships, pre apprenticeships, and career pathways connecting secondary schools, Iowa Valley programs, and regional employers.
Monitor apprenticeship programs for continued alignment with federal requirements and institutional standards.
Work directly with manufacturing businesses to identify workforce shortages, technical skill needs, employee-development priorities, and opportunities for apprenticeship and work-based learning.
Develop education and training solutions that help manufacturers recruit, train, upskill, and retain employees.
Connect manufacturing employers with Iowa Valley programs, customized training, industry-recognized credentials, and other workforce-development resources.
Support career pathways into high demand manufacturing occupations, including production, welding, machining, industrial maintenance, automation, robotics, and related technical fields.
Develop and coordinate internships, cooperative education, job shadowing, employer-sponsored projects, workplace tours, and other experiential learning opportunities.
Work with faculty and academic leaders to connect work-based learning experiences with curriculum, student learning outcomes, and industry expectations.
Develop systems for tracking placements, participation, completion, employer satisfaction, and student outcomes.
Maintain accurate records related to apprentices, employers, agreements, related technical instruction, on-the-job learning, wage progression, and program completion.
Collect and analyze program data to evaluate effectiveness and recommend improvements.
Prepare reports and updates for the Dean of Career and Technical Education and other institutional leaders.
