About The Position

The goals of the apprenticeship program are to train the apprentice to gain knowledge and skills to become a certified auto technician. The candidate is required to work under the supervision of a Master A Technician; must report to duty as scheduled to meet the requirements stated in the Apprenticeship Program Evaluation. The candidate must complete all work assigned by the Master A Technician and/or Supervisor. The candidate will be evaluated and assessed quarterly to determine progress, proficiency, and meeting the career path required for an Auto Technician.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or currently enrolled in High School as Senior student and six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers. common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; has problem-solving skills.
  • Applicable OEM skill level
  • Driving is essential to the position; must have and maintain current, valid driver's license and a clean driving abstract.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic email communications skills

Responsibilities

  • Works and assists alongside an assigned technician to learn to perform quality vehicle service maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs safety inspections, oil changes, lubrication work, basic maintenance, and minor repairs as directed.
  • Apprentice technicians need to communicate with their team and demonstrate safety practices and knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations of the automotive industry.
  • Apprentice technicians need to understand and comply with company policies and rules, this includes complying with safety policies and procedures, Safe Driving policies, and with the Safeguard policies.
  • Delivers customer cars safely to and from service stalls as requested by technicians
  • Picks up parts from the parts department as directed by technicians.
  • Replenishes supplies as requested by technicians or service manager.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Maintain the workshops area clean and organized
  • Attends training classes and departmental meetings.
  • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Keeps up with all Manufacturer training, safety compliance training, OEM training, and security on a timely basis.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Service Manager or Chief Operating Officer.
