Apprentice Teacher

Rochester Prep Charter School•Rochester, NY

About The Position

The Apprentice Teacher role offers individuals with limited or no teaching experience hands-on practice and training to explore education and develop skills for a future full-time classroom teaching position. Apprentice Teachers observe Master Teachers, co-teach with teacher-leaders, provide substitute coverage, and support students and teachers through tutoring, grading, instruction, and other classroom responsibilities. Depending on school needs and the candidate’s background, they may also teach a class of their own or small groups of students, with a limited teaching load. Apprentice Teachers participate in summer and school-year professional development and meet regularly with an instructional coach to receive feedback and develop their teaching practice. They may also teach or help coordinate enrichment classes, organize student events, and build mentoring relationships with students. By year’s end, they are expected to be strong candidates for full-time teaching positions. Uncommon Schools is a nonprofit network of public charter schools serving economically disadvantaged communities. It operates in Boston, Camden, New York City, Newark, and Rochester, and provides educators with coaching, feedback, and professional development. The organization describes its compensation as competitive and its benefits as comprehensive.
