The Apprentice Process Operator role is responsible for safe, compliant, reliable production of all refining operations and utilities operations according to Shift Supervisor instructions and standard operating procedures and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for TWIC card as dictated by facility and governmental regulations

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or/quantitative productivity standards.

  • Compliance with all personnel policies.

Responsibilities

  • Train and apply knowledge to ensure the plant is operating safely; within environmental limits and reliably and efficiently.
  • Serve as the key player for operational areas including terminals and tank farm once trained.
  • Patrol units to ensure safety, report malfunctioning equipment, and regulate pumps and compressors.
  • Take product samples.
  • Align product receipt and deliveries, sample products, conduct and oversee routine inspections for compliance with company, industry and government standards.
  • Assist other operators when circumstances require it during upsets, preparation of equipment for maintenance, etc.
  • Execute operations safely on all facilities while maintaining safety, reliability, profitability and product quality.
  • Serve as the key player in obtaining a Zero injury safety initiative and Safe and reliable Process Unit Operations and effectively implementing the safety program and the use of all related tools.
  • Identify hazards and mitigate risks to as low as reasonably practical (LARP).
  • Establish safe work conditions for all work executed inside the facility, including open flame hot work, confined space entry and all hazardous work permits.
  • Participate on Emergency Response Team to act promptly in case of emergencies, including incipient stage fires, vapor cloud release, donning SCBA for response to potential exposures.
  • Participate in safety meetings and periodic emergency response drills and discussions; and review Operating procedures, including Critical Task and Special procedures and Emergency Planning and Preparedness.
  • Ensure Equipment Reliability Operating envelopes are closely followed and that required data is recorded and reviewed.
  • Prepare Work Orders including those for Emergency work.
  • Report and help analyze equipment failures with Maintenance Technicians and provide information necessary to conduct root cause analysis.
  • Prepare and follow up on Operating Envelope deviations.
  • Attend mandatory trainings and Firefighting training.
  • Assist and mentor teammates as needed.
  • Ensure that all control requirements (API/local regulations, DOT) are applied consistently.
