Apprentice Power Plant Technician - Gas Turbine
About The Position
Under immediate supervision, this role involves working with and assisting a Power Plant Technician - Gas Turbine, receiving increasing instruction and experience in the maintenance and operation of gas turbine power plants. The position requires performing progressively more difficult and technical duties during training, assisting in the inspection, maintenance, and operation of gas turbine power plant and associated equipment. Responsibilities also include assisting in the maintenance and operation of other power plants, performing welding and fabrication, operating radio and telephone equipment, assisting in record maintenance for governing agencies, responding to emergency situations, and being on call as assigned.
Requirements
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
- None required (experience).
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to analyze problems logically.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
- Knowledge of basic electricity and electronics.
- Knowledge of basic mechanical and hydraulic principles.
- Knowledge of mathematics including a basic understanding of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
- Possession of an appropriate California driver's license.
- Must be able to respond quickly to emergency calls.
- Must be able to work a scheduled on call period.
- Must be able to arrive at the Almond Power Plant within thirty (30) minutes of the time they are called out when on call.
- Must obey all traffic laws when responding to a call out.

Responsibilities
- Work with and assist a Power Plant Technician - Gas Turbine.
- Perform progressively more difficult and technical duties during training.
- Assist in the inspection, maintenance and operation of gas turbine power plant and associated equipment such as hydraulic activators, lubrication oil systems, generator cooling water systems, generators and turbines, station batteries, switchboard, water treatment systems, fuel handling systems, etc.
- Perform Meggering and high pot testing.
- Check and record exciter generator brush condition.
- Assist in the maintenance and operation of other power plants.
- Perform welding and fabrication work.
- Operate radio and telephone equipment.
- Assist in similar activities at other power operating stations mainly hydro power plants.
- Assist in the maintenance of a variety of records including those for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Air Quality Control Board or other governing agencies.
- Respond to emergency situations and be on call as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
