About The Position

The Apprentice Optician creates exceptional value in the lives of customers by delivering the LensCrafters Experience. Ensures customers are delighted by performing the key steps of our selling model. The role involves greeting customers, explaining processes, assisting with merchandise selection, fitting eyewear, solving visual problems, handling transactions, and dispensing finished eyewear. The Apprentice Optician also serves as a center of excellence, focusing on 'Right the First Time' and modeling the company's service and selling model. They assist customers in selecting frames and lenses, suggest improvements, and recommend solutions. They also educate customers on LensCrafters' guarantees and services, handle measurements, adjust and fit eyewear, and ensure finished eyewear meets optical standards. The role requires achieving exceptional results on annual CEI/Functional Skills assessments and taking ownership of personal and store results. The Apprentice Optician acts as a role model and technical resource, operates the Point of Sale terminal accurately, collects payments, and explains processing and delivery times. They also ensure the store's appearance is maintained according to planograms and that a safe working environment is upheld, including wearing personal protective equipment in the lab.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Part of a sanctioned Apprentice Program
  • Strong customer service skills: communicator, listener and team builder
  • Knowledge of current optical theory and merchandise
  • Knowledge of current store merchandise
  • Strong basic math skills
  • Awareness of current fashion trends

  • Familiarity with POS, computers and calculators

  • Serve as a center of excellence for others with a focus on Right the First Time and modeling our CEE service and selling model.
  • Assist the customer in selecting frames and lenses that are best suited for their vision, lifestyle and budgetary needs.
  • Suggest improvements and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Assist other retail associates with difficult and complex areas of customer product needs and prescriptions.
  • Anticipate problems before they occur; explore underlying reasons for recurring customer problems; go beyond symptoms to get at causes; strive to develop long-term solutions to problems.
  • Show patience and courtesy with customers; track down answers to unfamiliar questions or products.
  • Educate the customer on LensCrafters’ guarantees and services including: Eyewear Protection Plan, eyewear care tips, complimentary adjustments and follow-up services.
  • Handle tasks, such as taking and recording measurements, adjusting or fitting eyewear carefully and correctly, is thorough and exact in details.
  • Ensure finished eyewear meets LensCrafters’ optical standards and customer requirements/requests.
  • Strive to achieve “Exceptional Results” on LensCrafters’ annual CEI/Functional Skills that align with brand priorities.
  • Take personal ownership to achieve personal and store results.
  • Serve as a role model for development and a technical resource for all.
  • Operate the Point of Sale terminal inputting customer and prescription information with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Accurately operate the Point of Sale, when required, collecting proper payment following company security procedures and retaining proper change for a variety of transactions.
  • Explain to the customers “One Hour” processing and expected delivery times.
  • Show customers where to pick-up their glasses upon return to the store.
  • Take pride in the appearance of the store and ensure visual displays are in accordance with Company provided planograms.
  • Maintain safe working environment for all associates/customers.
  • Inform management of any potential safety opportunities (broken tiles, furniture, etc.).
  • Demonstrate safe work practices including the wearing of personal protection equipment in the lab.
