A Utility Plant Engineer Apprentice participates in a four-year apprenticeship program that includes on-the-job training across all the University’s energy plants and concurrent classroom instruction at an approved vocational-technical school (1-2 evenings/week during the academic year). The Apprentice is required to attend all classes, pass courses, and meet licensing requirements to become qualified to operate all energy plants. During training, the Apprentice will learn to safely, reliably, and economically operate and understand each piece of equipment and system within the University’s energy plants, and is responsible for equipment and plant maintenance. Candidates must pass a mechanical aptitude test to be considered.
