About The Position

The Apprentice Nurse Program (ANP) will function in a supportive role to a registered nurse and work collaboratively with the health care team in the management of patient care. This position allows the student to gain experience in providing care to a diverse patient population and to develop strong communication and organizational skills. ANPs will perform direct patient care (hygiene, skin care, mobility, and assistance with elimination needs), obtain and record vital signs, collect laboratory specimens, document intake/output, communicate effectively with patients/staff, promote patient safety and function as a team member within the health system. Adherence to Baystate Health and department compliance policies and all applicable laws and regulations is mandatory. ANP leadership are committed to conversations with ANP members to meet the individual needs of the student.

Requirements

RN program students actively enrolled and participating in an accredited nursing program
Successfully complete one full semester of clinical rotation or previous experience as an ANP/ CNA/ MA/ HHA/ EMT/PCT/Medic or applicable patient care experience.
Basic Life Support - American Heart Association

Responsibilities

Provides age-appropriate care to patients.
Assists patients with the elimination of body wastes.
Performs POC testing
Communicate with staff about any potentially dangerous or life-threatening situations
Communicates to staff to provide high-quality care and treatment
Is knowledgeable or emergency procedures and resources and is ready to act in the event of an emergency.
Assists in the delivery of ancillary services as directed
Assists with clerical/support activities related to physician practice and treatment activities.
Assists clerical staff as available in preparing charts for scheduled appointments.
Monitors patients during treatment and notifies RNs of changes
