About The Position

Coast Electric is currently seeking applicants for multiple Apprentice Lineman positions to assist in the construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting of overhead and/or underground power lines. Positions may be assigned as either Overhead Apprentice Lineman or Underground Apprentice Lineman based on business needs. Work is performed according to Rural Utility Services (RUS) specifications and procedures and according to OSHA regulations. Applicants will have the opportunity during the application process to indicate their preferred county location (Hancock County, Harrison County, or Pearl River County) and preferred work type (overhead or underground). Final placement decisions will be based on qualifications, operational needs, and staffing requirements. Selected applicants must reside within the service area of the assigned position or be willing to relocate to meet the residency requirement. "Service Area" is defined as residing within 25 miles of the reporting office or within the county assigned. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required; high school diploma preferred
  • Utility Lineman Certificate or six (6) months of experience working in the utility industry required
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License required
  • Must reside within 25 miles of the reporting office or within assigned county or be willing to relocate into service area. In any event, the Service Area will not extend outside of the State of Mississippi.
  • Must be able to read and understand safety manuals, regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Must be able to operate assigned equipment including but not limited to bucket-life, forklift, backhoe, trencher, drill, chainsaw, shovel, post hole digger and high compression tools.
  • Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Entry-level positions with the potential to progress to Journeyman Lineman
  • Assist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of distribution power lines
  • Learn basics of line construction work and become familiar with the proper classification and terminology of tools, materials, and the use of various tools
  • Learn and apply RUS specifications, National Electric Code standards, and utility safety procedures
  • Observe lineman on poles and anticipate the needs of the lineman for materials and tools
  • Assist with pole installation, conductor stringing, splicing, and equipment installation
  • Operate and safely use utility tools and equipment
  • Support storm restoration and emergency response efforts
  • Trim trees and brush as needed for line construction and maintenance
  • Work on-call and overtime as required
