About The Position

Mountain Parks Electric (MPEI) is seeking an Apprentice Lineman for its Granby, Colorado location. This role is ideal for someone looking for a long-term career within the cooperative model. The Apprentice Lineman works under the direction of the Crew Foreman and/or Journeyman, participating in a progressive training program to develop the skills needed for constructing, maintaining, and repairing electrical facilities. Responsibilities include working with senior apprentices and journeymen on maintenance and construction of electrical facilities, responding to and repairing service interruptions, and operating various line construction and maintenance equipment. The role also involves preparing vehicles for projects, inspecting equipment, assisting with record-keeping, and participating in on-call rotations for after-hours outages.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must participate in the MPE approved training program and successfully complete within the first four years of employment as an Apprentice.
  • Must have a valid Colorado Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 90 days of hire and must keep current and valid throughout employment.
  • Basic first aid and CPR certification is required within 3 months of hire, and they must keep current and valid throughout employment.
  • Must reside within a 45-minute response time of service area center, and within service territory.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrollment/completion of an apprenticeship lineman program or vocational/technical school in power line studies.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Works under the direction of the Crew Foreman and/or Journeyman, using a planned program of progressive training and experience to develop skills for constructing, maintaining, and repairing electrical facilities.
  • Works with senior apprentices and journeyman to perform maintenance and construction activities on energized or de-energized facilities, across all system voltages, within the scope of training and certification.
  • Responds, investigates, and/or repairs service interruptions to ensure prompt restoration of service and assists in evaluating the cause of the interruption to prevent future interruptions and provide continued reliability.
  • Operates electric line construction and maintenance equipment including, but not limited to, bucket truck, digger, trencher, forklifts, backhoes, and trucks.
  • Responsible for tools and material assigned to the vehicle on which they are working as well as the general good housekeeping of vehicles.
  • Prepares vehicles for construction and/or maintenance projects to include fueling, loading, unloading, stocking materials and supplies, and inspecting PPE, vehicles, tools, and for safety compliance.
  • Assists with record keeping of safety compliance, fleet maintenance, and inventory and maintains a log of work assigned/performed.
  • Participates in and maintains availability for on-call rotations for outages and associated service interruptions after normal working hours, and on holidays and weekends.
