About The Position

This role is the starting point in a structured apprentice program designed to build your knowledge of electric utility distribution systems from the ground up. Throughout the first year, you'll work closely with experienced crews to build foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in a safe, supportive environment. You'll work under the direction of qualified Line Technicians and Crew Leaders, with ongoing evaluation and mentorship. At the end of your first year, you'll continue progressing through our structured apprentice program with increased responsibility and skill development at each level. Apprentice Levels are: I, II, III, IV, Class B, and Class A.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must reside within 30 minutes of the district location.
  • Must have a current, valid commercial driver's license at all times and a safe driving record.
  • Must have current D.O.T. physical exam (continuously).
  • Must pass, on a continuing basis, all required drug screens and tests.
  • Must be able to work overtime and on-call.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with overhead (OH) and underground (URD) line construction on de-energized systems
  • Framing poles, installing anchors and guys, and clearing right-of-way
  • Learning proper care, use, and maintenance of tools, materials, and equipment
  • Supporting service and transformer installations on non-energized poles and systems
  • Participating in training for CPR, first aid, pole-top and bucket rescue, and safe work practices
  • Beginning to climb poles under supervision in training scenarios and on cold poles
  • Practicing safe operation of power tools and personal protective equipment
  • Learning basic electrical theory, distribution system layouts, and grounding
  • Gaining familiarity with staking sheets, material tickets, and cooperative rate structures
