About The Position

The Apprentice II - Piping participates in Modigent's structured 4-year (approximately 8,000 hours on-the-job training + related classroom instruction) registered apprenticeship program focused on process piping, plumbing piping, industrial piping, medical gas, high-purity systems, and integrated mechanical piping installations. Apprentices work under the direct supervision of experienced journeymen and foremen, progressively building skills in safe pipe installation, fabrication, assembly, testing, and maintenance while contributing to high-performance projects in commercial, industrial, and critical environments. Progression through Levels I–IV is based on accumulated hours, demonstrated competencies, classroom completion, performance evaluations, and successful advancement reviews.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (travel to job sites required).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and physical exam.
  • Commitment to a 4-year registered apprenticeship program, including required classroom hours (typically 144–200 per year) and on-the-job training.
  • Willingness to work in a safety-sensitive, field-oriented environment with variable hours and travel.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials/equipment (up to 50+ pounds).
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders/scaffolding, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces or at heights for extended periods.
  • Comfort working in various conditions (dust, noise, extreme temperatures, outdoors).
  • Manual dexterity for precise tool and pipe handling.
  • Strict adherence to Modigent safety policies, OSHA standards, and site-specific requirements at all times.
  • Maintain PPE usage and report hazards immediately.

  • Mechanical aptitude, strong math skills, and attention to detail.
  • Interest in sustainable piping practices, energy-efficient systems, or critical environments (e.g., healthcare, industrial).
  • Prior construction, labor, or trade-related experience a plus.
  • OSHA 10 certification (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate tasks with increasing independence, including accurate pipe measurement, cutting, beveling, fitting, and basic joining methods (e.g., threading, grooving).
  • Assist in layout, rigging, and installation of piping systems, supports, valves, and fittings.
  • Support pressure testing, leak detection, flushing, and basic system preparation under supervision.
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, isometrics, and specifications; document work progress.
  • Contribute to prefabrication activities and coordinate with shop teams for material flow.
  • Begin applying codes and standards (e.g., ASME, IPC) in daily work with guidance.
