About The Position

The Apprentice Electrician is an entry-level training position designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to become a Journeyman Electrician responsible for maintaining power generation facilities. This position performs electrical maintenance activities that include, but are not limited to, maintaining and repairing power plant equipment; working on energized and de-energized systems; planning and executing work assignments using procedures, schematics, and technical drawings; performing preventive maintenance; assembling and disassembling equipment using proper rigging and lifting techniques; troubleshooting electrical systems; utilizing electrical testing equipment; and communicating effectively with plant supervision, operations personnel, and maintenance teams. The Apprentice Electrician is also responsible for maintaining maintenance records in the Maximo® work management system and ensuring all work complies with applicable environmental regulations and plant procedures. Safety is a fundamental expectation of the role, and employees must perform all duties with a strong commitment to personal and team safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures, electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics
  • Knowledge of basic electrical theory, including AC and DC electrical systems, single-phase and three-phase motors, basic transformer theory, electrical symbols and formulas
  • Fundamental understanding of motors, controllers, switchgear, relays, transformers, generators, and electrical distribution systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits and control systems using technical documentation
  • Ability to safely use powered and non-powered hand tools
  • Proficiency with electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, amp probes, meggers, and other diagnostic instruments
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools accurately
  • Ability to identify problems, collect data, analyze information, and draw valid conclusions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to efficiently plan and organize work assignments
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including walking long distances, climbing ladders and stairs, lifting and carrying equipment, working in confined spaces and elevated locations
  • Ability to safely work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must support a 24/7 utility operation, including overtime assignments, back-shift work, emergency call-outs, and holiday and weekend work as needed
  • Must maintain at least 50% availability for call-out assignments
  • Willingness to relocate for future career opportunities if required
  • Successfully qualify on all required pre-employment assessments, including POSS, MASS, and EATOKS

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with electrical or mechanical systems is preferred
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Electricity, Electronic Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Construction and Maintenance, or Electrical/Mechanical Technology is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, instrumentation, PLCs, DCS systems, and process control systems preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications preferred
