About The Position

TRU Builders is seeking a dependable, hands-on Apprentice Carpenter / Box Truck Driver to join their growing residential construction team in Surprise, AZ. This full-time role offers the opportunity to learn the carpentry trade, work alongside experienced professionals, and contribute to building legacies. The position involves a variety of tasks, from assisting with construction activities like demolition and framing to managing materials, tools, and inventory. Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of construction, carpentry, remodeling, or related hands-on experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Comfortable safely operating a box truck.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly, with assistance for heavier materials.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in Arizona weather and active construction environments.
  • Dependable and punctual with the ability to plan ahead.
  • Organized and able to keep track of tools, materials, paperwork, and scheduled tasks.
  • Able to follow instructions and communicate effectively with Superintendents, Project Managers, Carpenters, vendors, and other team members.
  • Willing to learn construction materials, tools, terminology, and basic carpentry techniques.
  • Able to use a smartphone or mobile app for schedules, photos, timekeeping, and project updates.
  • Strong attention to safety and respect for company vehicles, tools, client homes, and jobsites.

Nice To Haves

  • No extensive carpentry experience required if you have the right attitude and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Lead Carpenters with demolition, light framing, trim carpentry, general cleanup, and other construction activities.
  • Pick up and deliver building materials, tools, and supplies to jobsites.
  • Safely operate and care for the company box truck.
  • Confirm materials and orders are correct before leaving suppliers and ensure loads are properly secured.
  • Keep accurate records of materials, tools, deliveries, returns, and job-related paperwork.
  • Maintain organized inventory in the box truck, shop, and storage containers.
  • Monitor material levels and communicate upcoming needs to the Superintendent and project team.
  • Coordinate material returns to suppliers when needed.
  • Keep the box truck, yard, shop, and work areas clean and organized.
  • Perform routine vehicle checks and help coordinate scheduled maintenance.
  • Report damaged tools and coordinate repairs as directed.
  • Post required jobsite photos, activities, material shortages, and project updates.
  • Plan ahead to make sure crews have the right tools and materials for upcoming projects.
  • Maintain truck maintenance and regular tool and material inventories.
  • Learn the proper names and uses of materials for effective communication with the construction team.
