About The Position
The County of San Diego's Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk has current openings for APPRAISER TRAINEE. Appraiser Trainees assist higher-level appraisers, receive technical assistance, and learn to perform progressively more difficult property appraisals. Appraiser Trainees interview property owners, business managers and realtors regarding building costs and resale value; appraise land and structural improvements; prepare reports and correspondence; compute values according to standardized methods; make sketches of improvements located on parcels; make itemized appraisals of livestock, store fixtures, heavy equipment, tools and all types of personal property.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency OR any combination of education and/or relevant experience totaling four (4) years or forty-eight (48) months.
- Education in a recognized accredited U.S. institution of higher education, or a certified foreign studies equivalency.
- A high school diploma or GED AND relevant experience within the last ten years in any of the following occupations: an accountant, auditor, real property appraiser, building cost estimator, engineer, real estate loan agent, real estate loan underwriter, right-of-way agent, licensed building contractor, OR a real estate licensee, licensed by the California Department of Real Estate, engaged in buying, selling, leasing, or managing real estate, OR an appraiser, appraiser aide or appraiser trainee in an assessor's office or in the property taxes department of the Board of Equalization (BOE), OR at least 32 months of experience as an employee of an assessor's office or of the property taxes department of the BOE AND at least 16 months of education or relevant experience as described above.
- Must be eligible for certification from the California State Board of Equalization as an appraiser for property tax purposes at time of appointment.
- In accordance with the California State Board of Equalization, appointees to this class must possess or obtain permanent certification as an appraiser for property tax purposes within one (1) year of appointment and must maintain certification as a condition of continued employment.
- Positions may involve necessary and timely transportation for field travel, requiring the ability to arrange transportation to different worksites, meetings, or field work.

- 5.33% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + 2.33% Market Adjustment) in June 2027
