Appraiser Trainee
About The Position
The Liberty County Board of Assessors is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Appraiser Trainee within the Assessors' Office. Under direction and supervision, this position is responsible for establishing values of properties for ad valorem tax purposes; conducting appraisal appeals including preparation and field work; performing residential and less complex commercial appraisals for tangible property in Liberty County that are subject to ad valorem taxation, adhering to Georgia laws governing same, Department of Revenue regulations and applicable appraisal procedures; and other routine technical appraisal tasks. No experience is required; the incumbent will be trained to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Requirements
- Knowledge of county safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of State and county laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, and departmental policies governing ad valorem taxation of tangible property valuation methods and accounting procedures.
- Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
- Skill in maintaining accurate records.
- Skill in reading and interpreting maps and deeds.
- Skill in producing detailed building drawing, locating property, and classifying property.
- Skill in using computers, calculators, and standard office equipment.
- Skill in customer service and interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to work independently.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- No experience required. The incumbent will be trained to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license with an acceptable driving history is required.
- Must be a Georgia resident.
- Must pass the Appraiser I examination as required by the Georgia Department of Revenue within one (1) year of hire.
Responsibilities
- Assists with field inspections of property, including visual inspection and measuring dimensions.
- Performs basic property searches and gathers information necessary to determine value.
- Calculates appraisal values for real property.
- Reviews sales data, field data records, and conditions affecting property.
- Assists with reviewing taxpayer appeals and making recommendations for change.
- Maintains continuing education requirements for certification.
- Conducts damage assessments following natural disasters.
- Maintains inspection equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
