About The Position

The school Social Worker is responsible for ensuring that the emotional and social needs of the students are met and maintained on an individual basis in accordance with policies and procedures, current federal and state standards, guidelines, and regulations so that it doesn’t interfere with the educational process.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Social Work (MSW) with licensure (LCSW) in the State of Louisiana.
  • A minimum of three years of post-master’s degree experience in a social work setting, providing social work services, in particular working with children, youth and families.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the needs of students and families (verbal and written).

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Louisiana.
  • A minimum of three years of post-master’s experience in a social work setting, providing social work services, in particular working with children, youth and families.
  • Ancillary Certification from the Louisiana Department of Education as a Qualified School Social Worker.
  • Effectively communicate the needs of students and families (verbal and written).
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusting relationships with students, families, and school personnel
  • Collaborate with all school personnel to assess student’s social and emotional obstacles to success
  • Provide home visits to meet families to address barriers to learning
  • Supervise social workers
  • Coordinate services for students and families which may involve referrals to community support agencies
  • Assist with triennial waivers and triennial re-evaluations
  • Complete psych- social on all initial cases
  • Complete adaptive assessments on all initial cases
  • Request medical records and outside evaluation when necessary
  • Complete Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC 3) on cases when necessary
  • Assist school social workers with FBAs and BIPs for students in the evaluation process
  • Provide crisis intervention, counseling services and the coordination of provided services from various support agencies
  • Help families understand school policies, services and programs
  • Assist teachers and principals in developing plans to help students with academic and behavior barriers
  • Mediate matters as it relates to the student’s needs between school and family
  • Ability to work with a team of teachers and other ancillary staff members in crisis situations
  • Follow up on student issues referred by parent, teacher, administrator or students
  • Develop, facilitate, coordinate prevention activities and intervention services
  • Serves as the chairperson and/or member of the Student Assistance-Support team
  • Member of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support team/RTI behavior support team
  • Participate in the identification of students who are in need of exceptional services
  • Participate in the Individualized Education Program process and development
  • Monitors school attendance and develop methods to promote school attendance
  • Maintains case files and records to track/monitor that status of student progress
  • Provide professional development and in-services to school personnel
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and family issues and records
  • Perform related duties assigned
