About The Position

AWS Insights & Optimization is seeking an Applied Scientist to develop advanced algorithms and models using daily customer cost, usage, and utilization data. This data powers features like cost anomaly detection, cost forecasting, rightsizing recommendations, Savings Plans optimization, and AI-driven conversational tools for AWS spend management. The team's goal is to be the leading provider of intelligent AWS cloud financial management, enabling customers to understand, control, and optimize their AWS product usage. The role involves working at the intersection of all AWS services, collaborating with various AWS teams, and ensuring a secure, reliable, and trustworthy experience for customers through intelligent insights.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of building models for business application experience
  • PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
  • Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
  • Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Unix/Linux
  • Experience in professional software development

Responsibilities

  • Own models end-to-end, from problem formulation through experimentation to production deployment.
  • Develop models for cost anomaly detection, including decomposition, detection, and root cause attribution.
  • Develop time-series forecasting models with a focus on accuracy and consistency.
  • Enhance rightsizing engines for EC2, EBS, Lambda, ECS, RDS, and Aurora.
  • Contribute to LLM evaluation science for AI-powered agent experiences.
  • Develop agent memory architectures for persistent, adaptive behavior across sessions.
  • Work closely with applied scientists, software engineers, and product teams to enhance existing models and build new ones.
  • Drive the implementation of proposed models.
  • Establish testing strategies to validate models before and after production.
  • Define evaluation metrics to ensure capabilities meet the quality bar.
