About The Position

Andera is an AI company building enterprise-grade agents designed to interpret complex financial documents, audits, Excel files, PDFs, reports, and other high-value business data. Andera is building systems that allow LLMs to reason over financial data with the same level of flexibility and sophistication that AI systems now demonstrate with code. The company is focused on one of the hardest and most valuable problems in enterprise AI: helping agents understand messy, out-of-distribution financial documents and support high-stakes business decisions. This is a high-ownership opportunity for an Applied AI Engineer who has experience building AI agent systems in production and wants to work on frontier AI problems involving planning, memory, tool use, multi-step workflows, data interpretation, and autonomous financial audits. Andera is tackling one of the largest hidden opportunities in enterprise AI: the billions of tokens trapped inside Excel files, PDFs, financial reports, audit documents, and legacy systems. The company’s goal is to build highly reliable AI agents that can help interpret the financial ecosystem of large organizations and support major business decisions where accuracy, reasoning, and reliability are critical. Andera is entering a major growth phase, including: A planned 8-figure enterprise deal with one of the largest service firms in the U.S. Scaling from a team of 8 to 30+ following a $35M raise led by Lightspeed Deepening partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic Working toward contracts with major Fortune 50 enterprises This is a role for someone who wants to build AI systems at the edge of what is possible, not simply add AI features to an existing workflow.

Requirements

  • 4–8 years of experience in AI agent systems engineering
  • Strong experience with Python and TypeScript
  • Experience building and deploying AI agent systems in production
  • Hands-on experience with agent capabilities such as planning, memory, tool use, and multi-step workflows
  • Strong full-stack engineering ability
  • Strong systems engineering fundamentals
  • Experience building reliable production systems
  • Ability to operate with high ownership and strong individual contributor impact
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with high expectations
  • Willingness to work in person in San Francisco 5–6 days per week

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on applied AI teams at high-engineering-bar companies such as Ramp, Brex, or similar environments
  • Demonstrated exceptional engineering trajectory
  • Background from a top technical university such as MIT, Berkeley, Waterloo, or a similarly rigorous program
  • Experience with agent frameworks
  • Open-source contributions
  • Applied AI research experience
  • Experience with distributed systems, large-scale data processing, or complex backend systems
  • Experience building AI systems that reason over documents, financial data, or enterprise workflows

Responsibilities

  • Design and build state-of-the-art AI agent systems involving planning, memory, tool use, recovery, and multi-step reasoning
  • Build agents that operate over messy, out-of-distribution financial data, including PDFs, Excel files, images, and complex documents
  • Define and implement agent architectures and experimentation frameworks
  • Improve agent reasoning quality, reliability, and performance over time
  • Build fault-tolerant, production-grade systems that integrate with the broader platform
  • Architect and optimize pipelines that process 100GB+ of heterogeneous data
  • Work across distributed systems, backend systems, data processing, and applied AI infrastructure
  • Debug complex agent failures, edge cases, reasoning gaps, and performance bottlenecks
  • Rapidly learn audit workflows and ship improvements in hours or days, not weeks
  • Work closely with a small, high-caliber engineering team to solve frontier AI challenges

Benefits

  • A planned 8-figure enterprise deal with one of the largest service firms in the U.S.

  • Deepening partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic
  • Working toward contracts with major Fortune 50 enterprises
  • Build AI agents for autonomous financial audits
  • Work on frontier problems in document intelligence, agent memory, and out-of-distribution data interpretation
  • Partner deeply with OpenAI and Anthropic
  • Join after a $35M Lightspeed-led raise
  • Help scale the company from 8 to 30+ employees
  • Work on major enterprise contracts, including Fortune 50 opportunities
  • Build systems that support high-stakes financial decision-making
  • Own architecture, experimentation, and production deployment end-to-end
