About The Position

Vor Systems is building AI-native software to accelerate capital deployment and project development for renewable energy. The company helps developers, asset owners, investors, and other stakeholders make decisions faster and reduce costs. The Applied AI Engineer will join the early AI team and work closely with colleagues on model strategy and agentic systems, data architecture and foundational pipelines, and product direction and execution. The role will architect AI reasoning systems and agentic workflows for complex regulatory, financial, and spatial analyses; build multimodal intelligence pipelines using OCR and vision-language models; integrate validation and evaluation frameworks into high-stakes workflows; and own AI-powered features end to end, from models and backend workflows to customer-facing interfaces.

Requirements

• Experience shipping production-grade LLM systems, ideally with deep expertise in agentic orchestration, including multi-step planning, tool-use loops, and self-correction.
• Expert Python skills and full-stack product experience, including connecting AI workflows to APIs, databases, and user-facing interfaces.
• Ability to turn messy, unstructured legal, financial, spatial, and conversational data into structured, usable insights.
• Strong focus on reliability, observability, evaluation, and understanding how non-deterministic systems fail in real-world use.
• Clear communication skills and ability to work autonomously as an owner within a small, fast-moving founding team.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with geospatial data, GIS tools, or mapping libraries.
• Experience adapting or fine-tuning open-source vision or language models.
• Experience with document-heavy domains or high-stakes financial or legal data.
• Experience with Modal, GPU-backed inference, or serving infrastructure such as vLLM.
• Experience building user-facing products with React and TypeScript.

Responsibilities

• Architect the core AI reasoning system and agentic workflows that plan, execute, and verify complex regulatory, financial, and spatial analyses.
• Build multimodal intelligence pipelines on Modal, including OCR and vision-language models, to extract information from messy sources such as scanned leases, permits, and engineering schematics.
• Integrate rigorous validation and evaluation frameworks into high-stakes workflows where correctness and reliability are paramount.
• Own AI-powered features end to end, from models and backend workflows to interfaces customers use to review results and take action.
